The life of Farley Mowat is being celebrated today at a funeral in his hometown of Port Hope,Ont.
The beloved author and staunch environmentalist died last week at age 92.
Mowat penned over 40 books, including Owls in the Family and Lost in the Barrens. Many of his works were required reading in classrooms across Canada.
Grey skies sprinkled rain as mourners — including Green Party Leader Elizabeth May — filed into St. Mark's Anglican Church in this small community about 100km east of Toronto.
For the past few decades, Mowat divided his time between Port Hope and Cape Breton, N.S. Another memorial that drew friends and neighbours was held in Cape Breton late last week.
Mowat is survived by his wife Claire, sister Rosemary, brother John, and sons Sandy and David — as well as three grandchildren.
