Entertainers Carly Rae Jepsen and the Tragically Hip, as well as recently retired astronaut Chris Hadfield, are among the personalities helping usher in the country's 146th birthday today, and the celebrations extend beyond Canadian borders.

In Ottawa, more than 350,000 Canadians are expected to converge on Parliament Hill for Canada Day festivities Monday. Lineups for a good spot to take in the entertainment began as early as 4:30 a.m. ET.

Political dignitaries such as Prime Minster Stephen Harper and Gov. Gen. David Johnston will also be part of the celebrations.

"We are fortunate for so many reasons to call this great country Canada our home," Harper said in a taped message. "We have a country of abundant resources and noble heritage, a country where people of all backgrounds are given both the tools and the opportunities to flourish, a country that serves as a model of freedom, harmony and prosperity the world over."

Between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m., Call Me Maybe singer Jepsen and indie rock band Metric will be among the Canadian musicians performing. As well, Hadfield will join Barenaked Ladies' Ed Robertson in a special musical performance.

Other high-profile Canadians also taking part in the celebrations include double-lung transplant recipient Hélène Campbell, who has championed organ donation around the world.
