A blast this morning at a fireworks factory in Coteau-du-lac, Que., levelled a building and sent a massive plume of black smoke into the air visible for kilometres.
The explosion happened just before 9 a.m. ET today at the factory located just off Highway 20, about 50 kilometres from Montreal.
Québec provincial police said there were no immediate reports of injuries or deaths
Fire crews are on the scene, and the building is still burning. Fireworks could be seen detonating within the cloud of smoke.
Highway 20 is closed in both directions at the scene. Emergency crews also set up a perimeter 500 metres around the burning building.
The cause of the fire isn't yet known.
Via Rail tweeted that it had reopened the tracks after confirming that one train travelling between Quebec City and Ottawa had earlier been held up at Les Cèdres because of the explosion.
