All children at a daycare in Gatineau, Que., are safe after police responded to a shooting in the Montessori school there, across the river from Ottawa.
Gatineau police arrived in force to Racines De Vie Montessori, a school at 225 Gamelin St., on Friday morning. About 20 police vehicles were on scene.
The CBC's Evan Dyer reported that one person was dead at the scene, but that no staff or children were hurt.
"We know there's at least one fatality, because we saw one adult-sized body being taken out on a stretcher, covered," he said.
The CBC's Cory O'Kelly said there were five ambulances there as well.
O'Kelly reported that a man had run toward the scene screaming, before a police officer went to him to calm him down.
The building is across the street from the Hull Hospital.
A briefing from police was expected to begin soon.
