A patient who was admitted to Toronto's Sunnybrook hospital with symptoms consistent with the Ebola virus has tested negative for the disease.
The patient had recently returned from West Africa and was admitted to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie Saturday morning.
In the evening the patient was transferred to Sunnybrook, which is a designated Ebola response centre.
Sunnybrook spokesperson Sybil Millar confirmed this morning that the patient's test results had come back negative.
Ebola symptoms are similar to a number of other diseases, and medical officials had stressed that it was unlikely the patient had contracted the virus.
There has never been a confirmed Ebola case in Canada, though a number of people have been tested as a precaution since the massive outbreak in West Africa that is blamed for more than 10, 000 deaths.
