Thousands of plastic Easter eggs will be headed to the trash heap next week because they simply can't be recycled in many centres.
In southern Ontario, the Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority tweeted a reminder to its followers that the eggs, which often encase chocolate, candy or toys, can't be recycled.
In 2009, Nestle UK replaced non-recyclable plastic with recyclable cardboard packaging in most of the 25 million Easter eggs it makes overseas.
Until they can be recycled everywhere, here's a list of what you can do with those plastic eggs:
1. Use them for storage of homemade or brand name Play Doh.

2. Paint them and use them as indoor or outdoor decor. Vivienne Wagner from The website V Spot turns plastic Easter eggs into faux robin's eggs.

3. Turn the eggs with clear plastic into miniature terrariums. That's what Brittany Watson Jepsen of the website The House That Lars Built does. She also makes Easter egg garland. She's got several tutorials and uses for Easter eggs on her website.

4. Use them as travel snack containers. A poster on the website thirtyfun.com uses them store to Cheerios or Goldfish crackers for kids.

5. CBC Windsor lineup producer Stacey Janzer uses them as single serving Jello molds.
