A Canadian National Railway train carrying crude oil has derailed near Gogama, Ont., forcing the closure of Highway 144.

Photos showing clouds of black smoke have been posted on social media, but officials have not released any details on the severity or cause of the derailment.

CN Rail said emergency crews are conducting a full site assessment and activating the emergency response plan with local officials.

There are no reports of injuries but the crew has reported a fire at the derailment site, CN Rail said through twitter.

Ontario Provincial Police closed Highway 144 between Highway 560 (at the Watershed) and Mattagami Reserve Road at about 4:30 a.m. ET. There is no detour and no word how long the highway will be closed.

This is the fourth CN Rail derailment in northern Ontario this year.

A train derailed last month, spilling crude oil and forcing the closure of the rail line.
