Two men accused of plotting to derail a passenger train travelling between Canada and the U.S. won't learn their fate today. The jury in the trial of Raed Jaser and Chiheb Esseghaier did not reach a verdict Saturday and will return Sunday for a fifth day of deliberations.
Both men face multiple terror-related charges in the alleged plot targeting a train travelling from New York to Toronto.
Both men entered not-guily pleas. After the Crown wrapped up its arguments Thursday, both Esseghaier, who is representing himself, and Jaser's lawyer indicated they would not be calling a defence.
Justice Michael Code, who is presiding over the trial, has previously delivered an explanation to the jury on Esseghaier's lack of participation in the trial so far. He did not cross examine any of the Crown's witnesses or make any submissions before the jury. He also remained silent when asked to enter a plea.
Esseghaier previously indicated he wanted to be tried under the laws of the Qur'an and not Canada's criminal code.
