The Gatineau Loppet, a long-standing cross-country ski competition, has shortened four races due to an extreme cold warning issued for Ottawa, Gatineau and the surrounding areas on Sunday morning.
The Loppet, which has existed for 36 years, scheduled four races for Sunday and all four were shortened.

The races were still scheduled to start at 9 a.m., according to race officials. For safety reasons, though, here are the new details on Sunday's races:
- 51 km race is now 42 km.
- 27 km race is now 22.5 km.
- 10 km is now 8.5.
- Mini Sport Échange Outaouais, a two-kilometre race, is now one kilometre.
The extreme cold warning means wind chill values could reach -40 at times due to bitterly cold arctic air and stiff northerly winds, according to Environment Canada.
The worst of the wind was expected to arrive later Sunday then return on Monday morning.
