The mother of a four-year-old Toronto boy found wandering naked in the bitter cold Friday has been released on bail, with the condition she not see her son.
The 23-year-old woman is charged with abandonment of a child under 10.
She was released on $2,000 bail, which was paid by her mother.
The boy was found Friday afternoon at Lake Shore Boulevard West and Twelfth Street in Etobicoke. The high in Toronto on Friday was –14 C.
Police say a neighbour heard the boy crying and saw him out a window. The neighbour recognized the boy and scooped him up in a blanket, but after going to the child's house found nobody home. The neighbour took the child to her own house and called police an hour later, police said.
The boy is under the protection of the Children's Aid Society of Toronto.
The incident comes shortly after the death of Elijah Marsh, a three-year-old Toronto boy who died after wandering into the cold early Thursday morning.
