A group of 22 people, including 9 children, is stranded on an island off Cape Dorset, Nunavut, because of bad weather, according to the Joint Task Force Atlantic based in Halifax.
Rescue crews dropped emergency supplies, including food and fuel, to the group early Saturday morning.
According to Maj. Martell Thompson with the Joint Task Force, the group has been stranded on the island — 69 kilometres from Cape Dorset — for five days.
Thompson says the group initially contacted Nunavut Emergency Management, saying they weren't in distress but needed supplies.
Officials in Nunavut then contacted the Joint Task Force, which sent a C130 Hercules from Greenwood, N.S., with the supplies.
Officials say everyone in the group is in good condition.
Thompson says it's not clear when they might be moved off the island, but says he expects they'll leave on their own once the weather clears up.
