Calgary is likely to get its first significant snowfall of the season today, Environment Canada predicts.
A cold front that is producing rain has even colder air behind it that's expected to start making snow later in the day in Calgary.
Snow is already starting to fall west and north of the city, reducing visibility on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway as far south as Airdrie.
The agency issued weather alerts for:
- Kananaskis, Canmore.
- Airdrie, Cochrane, Olds, Sundre.
- Okotoks, High River, Claresholm.
- Banff National Park.
- Nordegg.
- Hinton, Grande Cache.
- Rocky Mountain House, Caroline.
- Whitecourt, Edson, Fox Creek, Swan Hills.
"Current analysis suggests over five centimetres of snow is possible for these regions, however, there is still some uncertainty as to just how much will accumulate," Environment Canada said in a special weather statement for Calgary on its website.
