Revellers prepare for Montreal's gay pride parade

Rain or shine, the city's gay pride parade will unfurl across downtown Montreal on Sunday.

Montreal Pride organizers are promising a festive and family-friendly parade, set to begin at 1 p.m. ET at the corner of René-Lévesque Boulevard and Guy Street.

It will head east up until Sanguinet Street and is expected to wrap up around 2:30 p.m., to be followed by a minute of silence to pay tribute to people who have died of AIDS and those who have been victims of homophobia and violence.

About 2,000 people, 100 groups and 15 themed floats will participate in the parade.

Organizer Jean-Sébastien Boudreault said strict rules have been put in place for this year's parade, which is to say no overt nudity — although there may be some tiny bikini bottoms present.

Many municipal, provincial and federal politicians are expected to make an appearance in the parade line, including Mayor Denis Coderre, Projet Montréal's Richard Bergeron, Premier Philippe Couillard and several MNAs.

Justin Trudeau and Thomas Mulcair will also stop by. No Conservative party members accepted the invitation.
