NB Power still has hundreds of customers waiting for electricity.
On New Year's Eve the company said it hoped to reconnect almost everyone before the clock struck 12 a.m.
But on New Year's Day there are still more than 500 homes with no power.
Those outages are in communities near Rothesay, Sussex and St. Stephen.
Some customers are being told to expect power back later today, others are being told it might not return until Jan. 3.
Cindy Arbeau and her family lost power a few days ago.
"For two nights, out in the valley," she said.
Arbeau said she was excited to celebrate the New Year.
"We sure are. That's why we decided to come out and start fresh this evening."
Ken Kirkpatrick, who lives on the Kingston Peninsula, was stocking up, preparing to ring in the New Year in the dark.
"It's not on yet when I left the house but they are at the house right now. So we'll see what goes on from there," he told CBC News Tuesday evening.
"Yeah we'll be fine. We survived this long, we'll survive a little bit longer."
Later on New Year's evening, Kirkpatrick and many of his neighbours finally had their power restored.
Some people have not had power since December 23.
