Pedestrian killed by falling metal at Montreal construction site

A 32-year-old man is dead after he was hit by a piece of metal that fell at a construction site this morning.

The man was walking by the site at De la Montagne Street and Rene-Levesque Boulevard when he was struck by a large metal plate at around 8:20 a.m. ET.

"He was in a critical state and transported rapidly to hospital," said Bob Lamle of Urgences-Santé.

A short time later, police confirmed the man had died.

The man was a passerby and not a worker, Lamle said.

Montreal police and Quebec's coroner's office are investigating.

De la Montagne is closed between Rene-Levesque Boulevard and St-Catherine Street.
