About 9,400 Hydro-Quebec customers were still without power at 10 a.m. after a swift and intense thunderstorm swept across southern Quebec last night.
At its height, the outage affected nearly 60,000 homes and businesses.
Hydro-Quebec has not indicated when full service will be restored.
Most of the remaining outages are in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and Laurentian regions.
Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning early Wednesday evening. Winds gusting up to 81 km/h were recorded at Montreal's Trudeau airport at 5 p.m.
In Laval, pea-sized hail was reported.
Some minor damage, including a small fire at a building on Laurier Street and a sewer backup in Longueuil, was reported in the Montreal-area.
A high heat and humidity warning remains in effect for Montreal and Laval. Humidex values are expected to rise to about 35C today, but are expected to worsen again on Friday with values reaching 40C, according to Environment Canada.
That heat is expected to break later in the day Friday as another cold front pushes its way into central and western Quebec, bringing more severe thunderstorms.
Temperatures on the weekend are expected to be closer to the seasonal average.
