A pre-teen girl who survived a deadly fire in Thurso, Que., says she was scared for her life when she escaped with her friend, two other children and her friend's parents, who she was staying with overnight.
Two sisters, aged three and eight, were found dead in a home in Thurso, Que., about 45 kilometres east of Gatineau, after the house fire Wednesday morning.
Anouck Robineau, 11, said she and her friend were sleeping in the basement of the two-storey home on Lacroix Street when they heard screams. Her friend tried to open the door to go upstairs but she was enveloped by flames.

(Lorian Belanger/CBC) Robineau, who can only speak French, said she grabbed her friend, who is 12 years old, and pulled her back down before closing the door. Then they tried to escape out of a basement window, but the first two were covered by metal bars.
They managed to escape out of a third window not covered by bars, said Robineau, because it had been kicked in by her friend's father, who was outside.
8-year-old victim tried to escape
The pair were then on the sidewalk when they, her friend's parents and three other children, including a baby, looked up to see an eight-year-old girl trying to escape out of her bedroom window on the second floor.
Robineau said she then saw the flames surround the girl, who could not open the window. The father then tried to climb up to rescue the girl and her three-year-old sister, but he couldn't reach them.
Firefighters found their bodies inside the home several hours later.

The mother and a boy remain in hospital as well, while a six-month-old baby and Robineau are no longer under hospital care.
Robineau had a gauze bandage on her wrist to cover burns suffered while trying to escape with her 12-year-old friend, who is at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa in critical condition.
Fire electrical, investigators say
She then went over to neighbour Sylvain Leblanc's home with the three other children where paramedics began initial treatment. Leblanc had described them in "bad, bad shape."
On Wednesday, Leblanc recalled waking up at about 4:30 a.m. to the sound of a woman, the mother, running outside screaming as flames came from the home. Leblanc also recounted how the father tried to enter the second floor of the house with a ladder to reach his children, who were still in the burning house.
Robineau's left wrist was covered with a gauze dressing to protect her burn. (CBC) Firefighters continued to battle the fire for more than three hours afterwards from outside before they could finally enter and search the home. That is when they found the two victims inside.
The fire was caused by an electrical problem in the home, investigators concluded Thursday. Fire officials do not yet know if there were any working smoke detectors in the home.
Also on Wednesday, a steady stream of family members, friends and neighbours came by to share their grief and drop off flowers for the family, who only moved into the home about one year ago.
