A 39-year-old man has been arrested and charged after a flight he was on from Vancouver to the U.K. was diverted to Iqaluit.
Police said the man was intoxicated and acting "belligerent and aggressive." They say passengers had to help flight attendants restrain the man while the pilot made an emergency landing.
Iqaluit RCMP arrested the man after the plane landed. He faces charges of uttering threats, causing a disturbance, mischief and also a charge of unruly behaviour under the Aeronautics Act.
If found guilty, he could face a fine of up to $100,000 and five years in prison.
The man's name has not been released because he has not yet been formally charged.
The Air Transat flight continued on to London shortly after the emergency landing.
There are no roads leading in or out of Iqaluit — the city is only accessible by air or water.
