A woman in Mississauga, Ont., is expected to be charged later today in the death of her nearly three-year-old daughter after police responded to a call to a home on New Year's Day.
Teresa Amelia Williams, 24, will face a second-degree murder charge in the death of Evadne Williams-Scott, who was two years and nine months old.
On Tuesday afternoon just before 4 p.m., police responded to the call from a "hysterical woman" who was barefoot in the snow on the balcony of a home at 3480 Colonial Dr. in Mississauga, just west of Toronto.
Police said they had to use a stun gun to subdue the woman and enter the unit.
Peel police Insp. Randy Cowan said officers found the toddler inside suffering from "obvious signs of trauma."
Cowan said Williams is not known to police, who have interviewed the father. He said police do not know whether the woman has any other children.
An autopsy is scheduled for later on Wednesday. Williams is due in court in the afternoon.
