Scores of First Nations protesters in Sarnia, Ont., say their demonstration will continue until the prime minister meets with a northern Ontario chief who is on a hunger strike.
The protesters gathered in front of Sarnia's city hall Monday to denounce the Harper government's omnibus Bill C-45.
They claim it eliminates treaty and aboriginal rights set out in the Constitution. Aamjiwnaang member Greg Plain says the reason for protesting goes beyond the complaints of natives because the bill also affects other Canadians.
Demonstrators also continued to block a CN Rail line in Sarnia in a protest that started on Friday.
The protests are part of the national Idle No More movement against the government's legislation.
Demonstrators say their Sarnia blockade will go on until Prime Minister Harper meets with Attiwapiskat Chief Theresa Spence, who has been on a hunger strike since Dec. 11 to bring attention to aboriginal issues.
She is seeking a meeting with Harper, the governor general and First Nations leaders to discuss the treaty relationship.
